Tom's idea sounds like a good one. Texereau suggests the same thing.

Tom, would you please elaborate on the effect on the mirror's coating of
trapped air between the primary and the open end of the tube?
Additionally, pleae describe your mirror cap. I believe Texereau mentions
a glass cover, although any material that does not attract or hold dust
should be suitable.
