And what the LOW end cabinet shops do is glue and staple!  Borrow or buy a
small, air powered staple gun -- my small Bostitch S32SX with 1 3/8" staples
works great with all 1/2" plys.  Highly recommended, very fast, *watch your
fingers*.  Keep the air pressure down when stapling near the edge, so as not
to shatter the veneer.  A little wood filler and you can't even find the
holes.
