Re: ATM 3/4" plywood for dob.?




I like to use a couple wood screws per corner joint myself, predrilling the
holes with a countersink and filling them with hardwood plugs. If I find the
pieces get off a bit, it's never more than what a couple swipes with a
handplane or a trim bit in the router can't take care of. For an experiment,
I tried pulling glued-only Appleply pieces apart and found that the top
lamination or two pulls away without a whole lot of exertion as the joint
fails (only as deep as the glue can penetrate). Sure, you wouldn't be
subjecting your telescope to those kinds of stresses on purpose, but if I
can make my scope more crush-proof with a couple wood screws, then why not?
