ATM acid part I

A brief story about acid. Thirty years ago, I worked in a plant that
made swimming pool
filters. Since they were made of stainless steel the tanks were pacifiated
in phosphoric acid
Nitric acid was used in the neutralizing process. One day we had to add a
barrel of acid to
the tank. I stood by with a fire hose so when they cracked the bung, I
could hose down the
2 men that were doing the job. They wore gloves, goggles, and guts. As they
cracked the drum, the nitric acid 'jumped'. It got both of them. The
instant I saw this I let them have it with the
fire hose. The lead man was my boss. It was probably the only time a worker
hosed down
his boss and didn't get fired lol! Even though it was only a second before
I doused the 2 of them
they both sustained sever acid burns of the arms, face, and torso. It was a
few weeks before
they felt like smiling.Moral of story.Even when you know what your doing,
acid is still
tricky stuff. I'd leave it alone.
