Yeppie, you don't have a good mirror until the Strehl gets over 1.000! 8-)^). Actually, I've seen some stuff like that and it happens on occasion. If it happens while polishing a mirror like you have, you've been polishing too fast and with too much overhang. The TDE could also be your hands getting too far down on the sides of the glass.
