That image at http://lerch.yi.org/atm/wavy.jpg is dogbiscuit and isn't a
result of the LED itself.  If that mirror is a plate glass one, the Cerium
Oxide may be making things worse for you and you may want to finish it with
Red Rouge instead.  I see that about half the time with plate glass mirrors
and that, along with people that work one section of the glass at a time,
shows up rather easily with any color of the light used.  One of the guys in
the mirrormaking group had a nice paraboloid but had the surface and has
since, with the rouge, lost his paraboloid but now has a smooth surface and
is most of the way back towards a paraboloid surface shape.
You state that you've done unsharp masking on the image so you may be
bringing out something that may be quite subtle and thus may not really
affect the image as much as what it looks like but the image is a pretty
typical image that I have seen of the problem.
