   this reminds me of a R/C glider I build years ago. it was designed
to have extra weights added to the wings to change the flight
characteristics.

   the weights were built by poring melted lead into a 1/2" brass tube.
you cut the tube up into different lenghts to get different weights.

   now with a telescope you could attach these style weights using velcro
or using a larger dia tube attached near the primary cell/mirror and
sliding the weights into the tube. you could also make a series of tubes
to handle different lengths of weights, kinda like a pan flute. this would
make removing the weights easier.

   just an idea....
