Steve (and everyone),

I'm a little bit familiar with the M-O-M, Dennis's
machine is very well thought out, and I've been doing
about half of my research on grinding machines in his
online operator's manual.

But,

Every time I follow such carefully prepared
directions, I end up with a result just like everybody
else's. Why do something the tried and true way if I
can experiment and make a whole slew of new and exotic
mistakes?

Seriously, I have an idea for a linkage system for the
overarm assembly which seems too simple to actually
work, but I think it may pan out anyway. Also, I'm
not convinced that all of those speeds in the M-O-M
are necessary, a single mirror/tool movement ratio and
a few spindle speeds at most seem all that is
necessary (go ahead, flame away everyone). Just check
out the Waineo Desktop grinder/polisher.

Thanks everyone for the huge amount of responses, as
usual, I came away with far more info than I'd hoped
for.
