When you put the lacquer on, you want fairly thin coats and you do need to
thin the lacquer a fair bit in order to get the coat on nicely. Please note
that if you thin too much, you will get a rainbow colored coating on the
brass but a quick wipe with the thinner and more spraying (recommended
method of applying the lacquer) will fix that problem.
Another thing to do is to take some extra fine steelwool and smooth the
lacquer and also give a satin finish at the same time.
