ATM What to do with these grinding wheels

Hi folks;

Last week I drove up to visit a friend of mine at Spectra Physics in
Oroville(Calif)to pick up some free optical machinery parts and supplies
they were going to throw away, and in the pallet of stuff I picked up
were a few of some interesting looking grinding wheels.

They are 12" diameter, 1" thick and made of a dark pink material, very
porus looking, with the following designation of the label.

49A36.2-K12-VM VIT

While I have no use for them here in my optical shop, they look ideal
for hogging out a Pyrex blank, 12" or larger, using 60/80 SC grit, and
then, after the initial curve is generated, could be used as a substrate
for epoxying tiles to for the rest of the grinding schedual.

Has anyone any idea what they may be made of? I doubt they are SC, due
to the color, and may be more likely vitrified aluminum oxide, but have
never seen ones this color or of this open of a structure.

I may haul them over to the Chabot workshop and see if anyone wants to
give one a try....
