Yes, sicko, sickening.. very good words to describe it.

If this guy is legit, he is a complete idiot.. posting it to a board where
the 'stolen telescope' post is actually found.

I too am partial to thinking that this is some sort of sick joke. Everybody
know's that when you joking about how cheap something was, that it was 'a
steal', it means that it really was stolen. No real thief would be this
stupid.. you would think.

So, does the real Major Tom  have any enemies that would try and pin this on
him? (I say this only half in jest).

It would have to be within the community wouldn't it..? Since they knew
exactly what they were going for. It's very shameful indeed..
