If I may add my UKP 0.02:

Anyone running MS-DOS could do himself a big favour by running 4DOS on
top of it. (I don't know if it runs on top of PC-DOS or FreeDos.) It
gives you a host of new commands, permits aliasing of commands, full
command history, and a decent help system. In short, it gives you all
the functionality Microsoft never even dreamed of. The only downside as
that you sometimes feel foolish when you start typing in aliases or 4DOS
commands on a computer that isn't running it...

As for sources of MS-DOS, check your Windows CD. Windows 95 has a
directory called OTHER\OLDMSDOS. Depending on your Win 95 version, you
may have a complete OS in there, or maybe only QBASIC and HELP. May be
worth looking.
