The front baffles on the HST shield the optics from
direct sunlight and earthlight by managing the attitude
of the spacecraft such that these sources are a minimum of
45 deg away from the pointing direction. This is why
HST can never view the inner planets. Insulation, reflective
shields, and low expansion metering trusses keep it
stable.
