[APML]: OT: using astrophotos to reduce light pollution

The Astro-Photography Mailing List
------------------------------------

Hi :)

I was just thinking about two things: astrophotography and light pollution.
A big problem that the IDA ( http://www.darksky.org/~ida ) is the lack of
donations. What if astrophotographers offered prints to people who donate
to the IDA? The prints could be output from digital files or use some
other method to keep astrophotographers from getting overwhelmed.

This ties in directly with astrophotography, since in many (if not all)
cases, we seem to be driving to dark locations to take astrophotos. If
people can see what they're losing and support the IDA in the process,
maybe progress against light pollution (and, just as important, towards
educating the public about what light pollution is) can increase.

I'm posting here because this is the best way I know of to reach the
best astrophotographers I'm aware of. I'm not a representative of the
IDA... it just seems like the best organization to support in order to
reduce light pollution.

If this is deemed inappropriate traffic for the list, please feel free
to write to me at shareimg@ncal.verio.com ( mailto:shareimg@ncal.verio.com
for convenience).

Thanks!

Cameron :)
