I was a subscriber some time ago and I found that overall the magazine was 
definitely on the "light" side in terms of information. In fact, after I 
allowed my subscription to lapse for a year or so, I decided to give The 
Astrograph another go since they were then advertising 6 free issues with 
subscription. I got the subscription, but I never received the 6 free 
issues. After two letters to the editor about the missing freebies, I gave 
up.

If you can get the 10 "free" issues, then a year's subscription is worth 
the $12. Otherwise, in my humble opinion, stick to the astrophotography 
mailing list and their informative archive.
