This is a great topic.

I'd like to recommend two small books that relate to the subject in a very
broad way.  Both were written by people who are very fine artists,
photographers and teachers:

"Beauty in Photography"  Robert Adams, Aperture Foundation, 1996.

"The Nature of Photographs"  Stephen Shore, The Johns Hopkins University
Press, 1998.

These are not astro-photography books, but both authors have much to say.
