[APML]: Guidescope Recommendations

Hi:

I was hoping to get recommendations regarding a guide scope for a 650mm
f4.5 custom maksutov-newtonian I just ordered. I have two questions:

What focal length is needed if I am using an ST4 for guiding? Would
about 400-600mm do the trick? Any advantage in going longer?

Can someone recommend a specific brand of refractors that would be ideal
at the appropriate focal length. I am looking for a fairly short tube
and light-weight unit, so as not to impose too much burden on my GM8
mount.
