Many of these machines can, and it has been my experience that most amateur
labs (some of which are more than a one hour "lab-in-the-box") hire minimum
wage counter attendants that no little about the equipment in the back. If
you are LUCKY there may be ONE person at any lab that knows the ins and
outs of the equipment. If you can't actually talk to that person you're
usually out of luck. It can be amazing what some of these places can
accomplish once you have established a rapport with that person.

Some of the modern mini-lab machines are quite marvelous. Do a web search
sometime for these items. It makes you wish you had one in your basement!

I'm anxious for the day when one can take a 24meg (trying to be
realistic...;-) photoshop file over to the one hour lab, take a look at the
video analyzer screen and punch the "print" button and have a custom
printed enlargement in 4 minutes. :-)
