I can testify to the fact that the ST-4 will do pretty much the same thing,
it happened to me about a week ago when I tried to shoot the double cluster
in Perseus. I had the ST-4 on the cluster with the two bright stars of
similar brightness in it, and when I calibrated, I got an error message. I
watched the readout in find and focus mode for a while, and the star value
was staying pretty much the same, but the location was jumping around by
about 20 points in RA and Dec! The seeing was pretty bad that night, maybe
that contributed to the effect.
