I'm using Kodak rapid fixer for 2 minutes at their recommended dilution.

Okay, I can try that. I've never changed the fixer dilution.

We have lots of calcium in the water - not much else.

Sorry - I had to laugh! I'm in California. The last time it rained enough
to save rainwater was last March. It hasn't rained at all since early May.
A dehumidifier? I've seen one around here. :-)
Seriously - I appreciate the help. Most people don't realize how dry it
is out here in the summer and especially where I am only 3 miles from
San Francisco Bay.
