[APML]: Digitizing Slides. Help!

I have some slides of various deep-sky objects and would like to
have them digitized so I can put them on my home-page.  Just got
back the results of one shop's feeble attempt.  The images are WAY
too dark.  The same thing happens when I try to get a print of the
slides.  Does anyone know of a slide digitization service that can
properly handle astrophotographs?  Do any of those little $1000.00
slide digitization hardware packages work for astrophotographs, i.e.,
can brightness and contrast be adjusted?  I know that somebody must
know how to do it because my photos in Meade's latest catalog were
done using my slides.  They seemed to come out ok.
