=)
And my artistic interpretation is...
Well, it is not yet so defined. I just follow some guidelines (not in that order):
- Reveal as much faint features as possible.
- Keep the feeling of differing brightness of the objects (i.e. M42 is always brighter in the center... and M42 itself is the brighter DSO in the constellation, for example.) In that sense, I try not to "tell lies".
- Don't oversaturate stars or bright objects: don't clip the histogram, just distribute the levels in another way.
- Destroy the noise.
- Slight use of wavelets to enhance large scale features (I am far behind Vicent in that field).
- Obtain an uniform background, almost neutral, with just a bit of blue hue.
- Show rich, "saturated colors" in the stars (not saturated data... don't know if you got the idea) and try to keep a gaussian like profile.
- Don't touch the hue of the objects!!! If everything is going allright, I believe in the color balance of the film emulsion. After all, wich is the "correct" color? I don't wanna make photometry, just a beatiful image.
So, that's what I keep in mind when I'm processing my images. Not always succesfull ;-)
After all, I'm just gaining experience. I want to build an autoguider system, so I'll be able to shot several nights, longer exposure times without worrying about trails. Then the serious work will begin ;-)

Don't worry! It is just a matter of practice. I played with PS since release 2.5, and I grew up between several computers.
And now that you menction it, I bet that this day is closer than you think... or, do you register your images in PS? This is something like a punishment, and the reason why RegiStar is so widely used (btw... Why is it so expensive?).
>Thanks for your patience,
No need to give thanks =) Patience is free <vbg>
Jokes apart, thanks you for your comments. I hope that you'll give PI a more in deep try and like it as much as I do. You'll remember me when you'll start to see the benefits. Just start with simple things: histograms and curves. Compare with PS and tell us what you think (btw, read the documentation before you use those tools... specially all the chapters about the user interfase. btw2, there are only a few people I saw making profit of process icons; althought they make life a lot easier)
