Re: [APML] Divide! and GradientBuilder

Hi Mike!

One is never finished with a software application ;-)
All the programs in my webpage at Pleiades Astrophoto are considered to be finished versions. I'll just fix bugs to them. Upgrades will be incorporated when they are going to be rewrited as PixInsight modules (for the standard release).

Divide! was designed mainly for film images becouse it is a nonlinear media. This means, there is no direct relationship (proportional) with the intensity and the number of photons, with the film's density (how black/white it becomes). CCD sensor, by the other hand, are linear media, so we don't need to apply those weird division methods. This is true for virtually any kind of CCD camera for astronomical purposes. DSLR images are in the reign "of the middle". They use linear sensors (btw, are CMOS linear?) but the output isn't always linear data. They are designed to generate images that have a similar look to what the human eye sees, wich isn't linear, so a color and intensity profile is applied. In those cases you should use Divide!, or any other software/method that allows you to go back to linear data.
