Re: [APML] Back to a film image-Rho Ophiuchus

Title:
Hi Nicole,

I'm at lat 32.5 or so and Rho and Antares were crossing the meridian so it was about as good as I can get from my location. It's still low in the sky however and sky glow, especially the uneven and increasing amount of sky glow going south through the image is a real problem to counter. This has always been a problem target for me and I have tried many times to get good images of this area. I think the only way to do it right is to take a trip to Chile.

Hi John,

nice image indeed! May I ask you how much high in the sky is the Rho
Ophiuci region at the time you shot at it? I'm having problems from my
site because it is very low and light pollution spoils any image I get
of this subject.

Thanks
Nicola

Here is an image or rather two images in a two frame mosaic of Rho
Ophiuchus area I took last year. I didn't take it very far in the
processing except to scan the film. The scanned images were quit noisy
and the film had a ton of dust bunnies and hairs from poor handling at
the film lab. I was just going to scrap these shots Since then I have
learned a lot about noise control and image processing in general so I
decided just a few days ago to complete the processing started a year ago.

The image is a mosaic of 2 120- E200 pushed 1 stop, scanned at 4000 dpi
on a PrintScan 120. All processing was done in Photoshop CS and passed
through the demo version of Noise Ninja for noise reduction.

Just a side note, I think Noise Ninja works much better that Neat Image
which I have been using for about a year.

Here's the image.
