[APML] Digital ICE

Hi again,

I have been playing around with the Digital ICE feature of the Epson
4870 on some daylight shots and have been pretty impressed with its
ability to non-intrusively remove the inevitable dust that comes
along with scans on a flatbed. I'm not sure if it was just me, but
the only downside appears to be a very slight loss of sharpness.

Given that, I'm wondering if any other 4870 users apply Digital ICE
to their astrophotographs? It certainly would save some of the work
removing the dust by hand with the clone tool in Photoshop, but I
wonder how major the loss of sharpness is on stars and astronomical
objects?

Maybe the answer is as simple as being more careful with my
transparencies and cleaning the bed of the scanner before each scan,
but it still seems a bit dust prone. What do you think?

Any other suggestions for getting the best astronomical scans from
the 4870?

Thanks,

Coiln
