[APML] Monitor question

I tried to adjust my monitor to see all of the steps in a step bar. The
brightness was very low and after adjusting it up, I could see all the
steps. But the colors are very washed out now. What else can I do to
correct this? Or is this an artifact of the settings present when I
downloaded the NGC 7023 that Stephan Messner posted the other day. This
is what is currently set as the background on my screen. Suggestions...
Shotgun?
