Carlos, I think you are right, that it is the interpolation that makes the smaller pic look noisy. I didn't mean to imply the actual image was noisy.
 
As for the flat fielding technique, your image is seems very flat so I would vote it works well. I would expect subtracting (using masks) risks removing real signal whereas flat fielding only adjusts for vignetting or light fall off. Is that the case?

Noisy! Not at such scale, and even at the largest resolution in my homepage you'll barely see it. Maybe it is the interpolation method...
 
Did you see the image only in the red channel? I feel that it is a very nice view.
 
BTW, what do you think about the film flat fielding technique? Do you like the results more than substracting?
