Re: [APML] OT: XP SP2 & DSL

it may be that verizon has not yet had time to release their fixes, but it may also be that you only need to manually set up the connection your self. so you may be able to make it work without Verizon's schlocky software.

how about checking carefully and recording the various internet connectivity settings as it works now and then manually set them up after installing SP2?

It must be a Verizon issue if other DSL users on a different ISP's do not
have the problem. When I spoke with the Verizon tech support person
yesterday, she said they know about the problem and they have had thousands
of calls on it. As of now, she said there is no fix from Verizon or
Microsoft so uninstalling SP2 is the only way to resolve
it....................................

Is your wife's business running a virtual private network (VPN) client? It
looks like the issue is with VPN's running on NAT-based networks. I don't
think this is very common, so most XP boxes won't have an issue.

Just a FYI. Hopefully this will save some of you the hassle I went through
today.
For those who have DSL and run XP SP1, do not update your system to SP2. It
totally mucks up your DSL connection. I did it on a new box at my wife's
business and just about pulled my hair out trying to figure out why the
connection was dead.

Wait on SP2 until MS can get their you know what together.

Maybe a Mac is the answer........ <vbg>
