RE: [APML] Image processing on LCD monitors

Emmanuele,
I'm by no means a processing guru, but I do use a fairly high end LCD to
process, it is not the best idea, but it can be done. I agree with Gene,
my laptop doesn't compare with my desk top LCD, it really looks bad.

Well, I can't say about your particular monitor. But I have used
a high end NEC flat screen for image processing. I don't see a
material difference between that and a 21" Compaq P1210. There
is a very slight difference side-by-side, but IMO not enough that
it would effect your processing.

This is not true of other LCDs, especially laptop screens. Most
of them look like cr*p <g>.

Subject: [APML] Image processing on LCD monitors

Hi list,
a few days ago I posted a message about a very good deal I had found on
a
HP monitor, but it got only one reply.

Since I happened to find the same subject I originally meant to talk
about
(besides the economical convenience) in another thread (see "APML] New
images: Butterfly, California, Valentine, M31, Eastern Veil" started by
Stuart Heggie), I am reposting it now hoping to gain a more widespread
interest.
In my opinion, all issues boil down to the following question: can I use
a
LCD monitor for image processing and get good results? Most people would

answer "no" for obvious reasons. But what if I put it in this way:

Is it ok to use a high-end LCD monitor for image processing in place of
my
old 17" CRT monitor? How ratty must a CRT monitor be in order to be less

suitable for image processing than a LCD one?

Please everybody (and image processing gurus) speak up, I'm all ears.

Thanks in advance and clear skies,
Emmanuele Sordini
