RE: [APML] First serious attempt to get decent astrophotos

Chris,
Try using some E200 slide film or Provia 400 slide film. They are both
readily available and are very good. That way you can save your Supra
until you feel a little more confident.

Subject: [APML] First serious attempt to get decent astrophotos

Mostly over the past 8 years I've dabbled in CCD imaging, and also taken
the odd photo with my LX200, but this winter I want to try and get some
decent pictures. To this end I built a rig based on a G11 and a s/h
Genisis SDF, and I have a couple of options for autoguiding.

I have an ST4 (on loan actually) and I have an un-modified ToUcam Pro
webcam. The webcam is much easier to hike around and setup, which is
important as I have to travel to a dark site. Will the webcam do as good
a job as the ST4 - anyone have any experience on this?

I will be trying my ETX90 for guiding first off because it's convenient
to use, but I also have a Vixen 90mm refractor if I hit problems.

For film I have a small stash of old Supra 400 in the freezer (20x36),
bought when stocks were running out. I have no idea what can replace it
when that's finished though. I don't want to waste the Supra
experimenting too much so having something else that's 'usable' would be
nice. Any suggestions?

My rig is right down at the bottom of this page:

Thanks,
ChrisH
