Sounds like a philosophy put forward in the series "Cosmos".
Ah yes......both are by Carl Sagan.
Remember that philosophy isn't necessarily related to fact.

I for one don't hold to the opinion that were are insignifficant blobs of
protoplasm on one tiny insignifficant little planet in this meaningless and
