Hello John:

I used an old 1.25 inch18 mm orthoscopic eyepiece for the magnifier for my
Nikon F2.  I removed the barrel of the eyepiece and did some filing of the
metal base of the optical unit to achieve the proper length so that it would
focus on the ground glass spot of the Nikon F2 focusing screen.  I mounted
(epoxied) the eyepiece in a wood jig that would center and hold the eyepiece
in the square opening above the focusing screen.  It worked quite well and
required no modification of the camera.  You might also want to see if you
can get a small (22x) film magnifier from a camera store.  I used one in a
similar setup for my Pentax 6x7 and it worked quite well for critical
focusing.
