Re: [APML] Websites- OT
Warren,
While I doubt Google will ever fully disclose how
their spider/search engine works, it's pretty obvious
that they are not paying much, if any attention to
metatags, but that doesn't mean you shouldn't use
them. Google is popular, but it's not the only game
in town, and metatags aren't obsolete. That being
said, many search engines are abandoning the tags
since they are abused by many sites that just want
traffic and throw a lot of junk in there. In the
first paragraph or so of your front page, make sure
you work all your keywords into the actual text of the
page. Google is getting pretty smart about parsing
actual content for relevant terms. You could also try
submitting your page to the Open Directory at
http://dmoz.org/add.html, and you will show up in
directory searches if the submission is accepted by
the volunteers who screen them.
Most companies that offer search engine services for a
few hundred bucks just visit each search engine site
and submit your URL for you, which is easy enough to
do on your own.
