RE: [APML] Websites- OT
Warren,
A live webcam, being old, keywords on many pages.
But mostly it is all about being OLD. Finally I get some rewards from
being OLD. You get links and history and rankings and referrals from
being there a long time. The next best thing is a live web cam image. I
get referrals from every old site back before Hale Bopp. I haven't
updated my website for years except my webcam. It is pretty dated and
obviously "early internet" but the numbers are below. Also lots of
topics and keywords. I think Yahoo does a very good job of delineating
current sites from old ones but many other search engines will just show
you the oldest sites like mine. The downside is that I get about 200-300
spam e-mails per day. If you want them to classify you by
"astrophotography" then you need that word all over your site on
multiple pages, nobody classifies your site except automated spiders and
search engines.

Subject: [APML] Websites- OT
Hey guys,
Does anyone have any suggestions on how to increase web
traffic to a website? I've joined webrings, gotten links from a couple
of
astro vendors and fellow amateurs, and filled out metatags. Apparently
though, the biggie engines like Google and Yahoo don't use tags. I've
seen
Yahoo ask for $299 for a good listing within a week or so, and have been
contacted by a company which claimed to perform a service to increase
presence on the web. Are any of these legitimate? I do come up by name
and
the name of the site, but not by "Astrophotography" and related queries.
Thanks much,
Warren A. Keller
