Ray,

It is entirely possible that this photo is legit. After seeing what can be 
done with a 10D by a fellow club member http://www.hostultra.com/~ghonis/ I 
do believe such an image is possible. I also agree with a previous comment 
about the blue tint to the stars in the image. If you go to the link below 
and look at the M51 image, you will see the strange blue tint imparted to 
the galaxy.
