Re: [APML] Self hypering camera from Taurus-tech?
Hi Alan:
Yes, Jerry is quite right about the Wallis & Provin standards of
dessication --- they were using vacuum pumps to get the water vapor out.
*If* I were to try out this Taurus system (I probably won't since I've
already invested in 120 equipment and a CCD camera), I would use my Lumicon
chamber to pump down the pressure as low as I could get it (I only have the
hand pump) and then bake for a couple of days (my thermostat is a 50 degree
one). Then pop the film into the Taurus camera body and leave it there till
the exposures were made, using whatever nitrogen system they provide. And I
would use 10-exposure strips of film so that I could have it developed the
next day and not try to use one can of film for more than one session. I do
think it's an interesting idea and I will be very interested to see what
kind of objective results come out of it.
The bigger question for me is whether to even consider using print film
anymore. The good ones are all disappearing and slide films, which are still
available in both 35 and 120 sizes don't seem to benefit that much from
hypering of any type. And it looks like (fingers *and* toes crossed now)
both Kodak and Fuji are planning to keep producing the good slide films.
