Well, I immediately do a "absolute difference" view after refining, and
zoom in at extreme magnification... if its perfectly aligned why bother
adding more points?..if everything is perfectly aligned then all the stars
should cancel out. If you notice some areas are not perfectly aligned then
add a point there and run refine again.

The auto refine does a much better job and faster than setting the points
by hand... when I used a Photosmart to scan I did have to use way more than
5 points, usually 1 thru z and it still would not be perfect..I guess using
dry air injection into the camera also helps in maintaining easy alignment.
