Re: [APML] Stacking Software

 Actually, WC...

I'm at a loss to understand why some feel that using PW for combining
(ie 'stacking') images is so difficult. My admittedly limited experience has
been very straight forward... and with pleasing results. See ------------>

 <http://home.att.net/~astropix/M44.html> ... as an example.

What am I doing 'wrong'? I use the four point alignment, but... I don't
use the 'Refine' function... checking 'Absolute Difference' shows my manual
alignment is always more precise than the 'Refine' alignment. Perhaps this is
because I always 'Zoom In' each of the images to about 6 or 8 to 1.

Following the instructions in the 'White Paper'... online at -------->

 <http://www.dl-c.com/astro.pdf> ...

or accessible off-line if you load the full disk copy, I've learned that after
zooming in on the first alignment points... you merely type the next number in
on your keyboard and the alignment previews 'jump' to that number, still using
your previous 'Zoom' setting! I've never needed more than four points to get
accurate registration. Of course... I do follow their suggestion of doing the
images in pairs. Using film, we rarely stack more than 4 or 5 images... what's
the big deal? Am I not stacking the 'right kind' of images to see
this 'problem'?

Mosaics... that's a different animal... I haven't tried that, yet!

 Best...
