I'm assuming that this is a flatbed scanner with a glass plate.  I have a
Umax PL3000 with a glass plate and scan a lot of 120 film.  The secret to
keeping the negatives flat and eliminating Newton Rings is a product called
Scanner Mounting Fluid from a German company called Kami.  You use this with
a piece of clear plastic film and it will flatten the most warped film.  If
