Sportsman's guide has the Brunton Eterna 7 x 42's available for 269.97 --
it sounds like that is a great price. These are the phase-coated roof
prism binoculars. It sounds like you like the Brunton Eterna line.
You might have to join their "Buyers Club" ( $30.00 per year ) to buy this
item -- the catalog number is JX2K-67590

I would agree with your comment on most Chinese binoculars I have looked
through. I would encourage anyone to look through a pair of those Pentax
20 x 60 PCF-V's however. The only thing that I don't like about them is
the small FOV. I am guessing that Pentax makes the optics in Japan for
them -- and assembles them in China. They use at least one aspheric
element and the multi-coating is the Pentax SMC which is very
good. Mechanically they are Pentax, definitely not cheap feeling.
Anyway -- take a look through a pair if you get a chance -- I think you
will be shocked. A couple of guys at our club here took a look through
mine a couple of weeks ago and were really impressed -- especially with the
contrast and pinpoint edge sharpness.
Mike
P.S. I don't work for or have any other association with Pentax corporation
:^) Just a happy customer.
