RE: [APML] 2nd Success with new E-160 !

Hi Jim,

The processing looks pretty good to me because you haven't blown out the
detail so much that you lose the nice gradations in the nebulousity.

Are you using Photoshop for the processing? One trick I learned from Matt
Bendaniel's web site is to do an initial adjustment of the levels so
nothing is cut off, and then use the magic wand to select the stars (use a
tolerance of about 60 and make sure that contiguous is not checked). You
can then invert the selection and choose layer->new adjustment
layer->curves (or levels). You can then play around with the curves and
levels of the nebulousity and sky background without blowing out the stars
too much, which helps keep the stars small. The nice thing about this
technique is that you can readjust the levels later if you save the image
as a psd file.

I have learned quite a bit about processing astrophotos just by checking
out Chuck Vaughn's, then Jerry Logriguss', then Matt Bendaniel's web sites.
They all have very good information and provide quite a service to the
community.

Alan

This is my second successful shot with the Takahashi E160! It's NGC7000.
I recorded quite a bit of detail on the (2) 45min exposures but I think
my processing technique was sub-standard. I would appreciate any
suggestions of processing this photo. This is my 3rd attempt at processing
it and I still don't feel I have it quite right.

Thanks!
