Hey Herm,

No laptop needed unless you're going to use the 208 or
216 for imaging. I am not ready to inch into CCD
imaging yet, I'm too scared. :-)

Unless I'm mistaken, the 208 will do black and white
but not color. The 216 (I think) can be fitted with a
color filter wheel. Both of these can be used as
stand-alone autoguiders.

The reason I use the Taurus unit is because the guide
port is helical and can be locked once focus is found
and never has to be messed with again. Then all you
need to do is to drop the autoguider in, and away you
go. 

Also, for those not familiar with the Meade units,
they are parfocal with 10mm eyepieces. Use a 10mm to
focus the guide port and then just exchange it for the
autoguider.
