Indeed it does. That would be an excellent location to try it from, and
since the view would be to the West, the light dome of Denver wouldn't
be a factor (much). I suspect that there are even better places to try
this from - the Uncompahgre Plateau, for instance, looks down and to the
West from a spot between Grand Junction and the San Juan range and
offers an outstanding unobstructed view well into Utah, and does this
from altitudes ranging from 9K to 10.5K in altitude. It should also be
possible to do this effectively from the top of Pike's Peak, but
unfortunately they won't let anyobody up the road after dark. I've been
meaning to try and get some special permission for this activity, but
haven't yet found the time to attack the beauracracy involved. The
Cottonwood Pass overlook at 12,000 feet should also offer an exceptional
view for this purpose, as the mountains to the West are some 20 miles
distant, and lower as well. This might be the most accessible place I
can think of from the cities on the Front Range to try this from (before
it snows, anyway).
Sincerely,
Jon Kolb
