Re: [APML] southern Milky Way from Spruce Knob

Hi Jeff -

That a real beauty!  You captured the Prancing Horse Nebula with great detail.
The image does look ever so slightly blue on my monitor.  Maybe take out 3-4 units?
Gotta love that altitude.... :-)

Subject: [APML] southern Milky Way from Spruce Knob

Hello all,
I know the east coast folks are tired from all nighters!  I got around to playing with this image from August new Moon.  I was originally setup to do CCD, but the wind was just too much on top of Spruce Knob.  I looked at the pipe nebula and thought I was nuts for not doing medium format film.  I wish I had taken the time to drift align.  This is my best, but I am hoping to better with a trip to New Mexico next spring.  I combined two E200 exposures of about 40 minutes.  I pushed two stops and the grain was much more noticeable than without.  I actually played with using a Hydrogen alpha filtered image I had taken from moderately light polluted skies to enhance the reds, but I didn't think it was much better.  I hope to have some images from Cherry Springs.  My slide processing takes a full week.  They do a great job, so I will wait.  The atmosphere starts to fade out the contrast at the bottom of the image.  Hope the color looks OK.  I like to preserve a natural look without pushing the contrast too much.

Thanks,
Jeff Ball
