RE: [APML] NGC 6888 Ha (Ha/RGB)
Brian,
I like where you are going with this one. Well, here are some free
thoughts. I think you are probably going to sacrifice some of the deep
low end of the reds with any technique to improve the contrast and
reduce grain. My thoughts are that the great number of red stars
indicates the H alpha is probably a little strong. I think Rob Gendler
has presented some techniques where he mixes the Halpha with the red
channel of the RGB. That may be the best way to start. I would mix the
Halpha and red and then use that mix as the red in the RGB and see what
grain and contrast you have after that. Given, I have never
successfully done this myself yet! Good luck and keep us posted.

The Ha was exposure 20x6 min long, while the RGB's were 10x2min
respectively all in 2x2 bin
mode. I averaged the R/Ha frame for the RGB. The scope is a 20" F/4
newt. Any ideas how to
reduce the graininess in the outlying nebulosities and improve the color
balance?
