Hi Joe:

M17 colors are tough! They seem to vary a lot from person to person. You can check out mine at

http://www.astronomy-images.com/images/Nebulas/m17-Ha-RGB.CCD.htm and you'll see that mine are redder, yours more orange. But if you go to Google/Images and look at a bunch of M17s you'll probably see a very wide variety of shadings.
