RE: [APML] Out-gassing(sp?)

Hi Jeff,

I have the same equipment as you. In addition, I use the Marvac electric
vacuum pump (low vacuum; basically a fancy, tireless hand pump that doesn't
make you're hand hurt <g>).

For 35mm color film (PJ400 in particular) I preheat the chamber to 50C; then
insert the film (in cassette); then use the Marvac for a 35 minute pump
down; then insert forming gas to +3 psi; then hyper for 7 hours.

If I'm doing several rolls at once (last job I did was 5 cassettes at once)
I may take extra precautions. In this case I added 2 or 3 "add gas/pump
down" purging cycles and filled to +5 psi.

If you're using a hand pump, you really need to use some "add gas/pump down"
purging cycles to compensate for the limited vacuum pull.

"Outgassing", to me anyway, connotes a high vacuum setup, which is a whole
different ballgame.

Take care,

Scott
