This is more than likely since the film is in intimate contact with itself.
The outgassing of the film under fairly high vacuum is tremendously slower
when tightly wound than when on the open reel. One thing you may consider
trying is to release the glue tab and let the film relax, even help it to
unwind a bit on its own spool so that it is some what loose, then hyper it
and carefully pull it tight on the spool and shoot it. Really PPF120, under
dark conditions, doesn't need to to be hypered. None of mine ever is and i
seem to have pretty good luck with it.
