[APML] SCT mirror lock
On my website's equipment page I just added a photo and description of a
primary mirror lock device that may be of interest to owners of 10 and 12"
Meade SCT's.
The direct link is: http://people.ne.mediaone.net/jeboud/equip.htm
I've used this mirror lock for over a year now, and I find this to be much
easier to use and a LOT more efficient than some of the more popular "mirror
stabilization bolts" I've used in the past. Before using this lock, if I
focused on a star and then moved the scope halfway across the sky to another
star, the focus would usually be so far off that the secondary shadow was
actually visible in many cases. Now the focus remains almost perfect no
matter where the scope is pointed, and of course this helps in long time
exposures.
BTW---I'm not claiming that this allows use of a guidescope, I still use an
OAG.
Now if only I still didn't have to worry about thermal focus shift ;o)
