[APML] Unwanted light in my astrophotos

Recently I have been seeing light in a form similar to a crescent moon in my C14.  This crescent shape has been appearing in my astrophotos.  When I see this light in my eyepiece it always is very close to some bright star.  As I move in the direction of the bright star, it becomes clear that the light is coming from the star.  You can see the crescent actually move into the star as I move the telescope so that I am focused on the star.  I have checked to see that my focuser(a JMI) and camera (a 35mm nicon) are tightly attached  and they appear to be. What is this and more importantly, how do I get rid of it?  Any help will be greatly appreciated.
